Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake Recipe

You must try this wonderful chocolate cake, it is not like any other you have ever tried. It is so moist with a scrumptious chocolate icing. Give it a try!


2 cups flour
2 cup sugar

Sift together; set aside.

½ cup margarine (1 stick)
½ Crisco shortening (use any brand, I like Crisco)
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
1 cup water

Bring to a rapid boil.
Cool slightly and combine with flour and sugar.

Add following:

½ cup buttermilk
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon ( I do not use)

Mix well and pour into 11-inch x 16-inch greased and floured pan.
Mixture will be thin.
Bake at 400 degree for 20 minutes or until done.

Texas Sheet Cake Icing:

½ cup margarine (1 stick)
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
6 tablespoons milk

Bring to a rapid boil.
Remove from heat.


1 box of powdered sugar ( 3 ¾ cups)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans

Spread hot icing on hot cake.
